BUILT BY HAND

It's all about the craftsmanship...

Lou and I started our business in 1990 after graduating from George Brown College in Toronto (Furniture Production & Design 1987).  We have always felt strongly that our work should honour the craft of upholstery and thus, we are committed to building all of our pieces with certain principles - most notably, the traditional hand-tying of coil springs in both seat and back.

Also, critical to the quality is that we build all of our frames using only kiln-dried hardwood (maple).  We would never use any softwoods or composite woods in our frame. As well, our joints are double-dowelled and tight-fitting - crucial for long-term strength and durability.

We make our cushion inserts by hand-stuffing with comforel, a non-allergenic polyester fill with excellent loft retention.  We also offer a high-density foam filling, if a more tailored look is desired.

The last component to our pieces is the leather itself. Our relationship with the European tannery Wollsdorf Leathers has been key throughout our 30+ years: a full-grain, aniline leather that we can trust and that our customers can trust. While many manufacturers offer various grade levels of leather, we offer only one.  As well, we examine our hides for markings and cut our pieces deliberately, focussing on the strongest parts of the hide for the most critical areas of the sofa.

After 30 years, we remain as committed to the core techniques of upholstery craftsmanship as we did as two young college grads.  We believe in the quality of our work and we are grateful for the interest of those who share our appreciation for a well-made sofa.
